The first Lea Parish meeting under the Local Government Act 1894, was held at 6:00pm on Tuesday December 4th 1894 in The Vestry of Lea Church. These meetings were held annually until 1973 when Lea Parish Council was formed.
The inaugural meeting of Lea Parish Council was held on Tuesday, June 26th 1973 at 7:00pm in the Lea School. This meeting was summoned by Mr G.W.Dawe the Lea Rural District Councillor. The newly elected Parish Councillors were Mr R.Abbott, Mr R.A.Cole, Mr G.W.Dawe, Mr W.H.Edwards and Mrs E.M.Rees.
Today, the Parish Council meets at 7.30pm in Lea Village Hall on the first Wednesday of the month, bi-monthly.
The purpose of the Parish Council is to use the precept raised via the Council Tax to try and ensure that the everyday problems encountered in the village are looked into and hopefully resolved. It also undertakes projects in the village that will improve facilities and enhance the local community.
There are 7 Councillors, the Clerk, a Lengthsman and a Footpaths Officer.
Meetings are regularly attended by the local Community Support Officers who give regular updates on local policing issues.
Parishioners are welcome to attend meetings either to listen to what is being discussed or to bring matters to the attention of the Council.
